Interior Design Cost in Pune: A Real 2026 Breakdown

The single most common question we get, and the one the industry is worst at answering, is what a home interior actually costs in Pune. Most studios will not give a number until they have your phone number, which is exactly backwards. So here are the bands we work with, what sits inside them, and what pushes a project from one band to the next.

The headline numbers

These are full-home turnkey ranges for Pune in 2026 — design, materials, carpentry, electrical, false ceiling, painting and installation. They assume a standard apartment, not a villa or a heritage property.

Home sizeEssentialsMid-rangePremium
1BHK₹3.5–5 lakh₹5–7 lakh₹7–10 lakh
2BHK₹6–8 lakh₹8–12 lakh₹12–18 lakh
3BHK₹10–14 lakh₹14–22 lakh₹22–32 lakh
4BHK / villa₹18–25 lakh₹25–38 lakh₹38–60 lakh+

If a quote you have received sits far below the essentials column, something has been left out of the scope — usually electrical, false ceiling, or painting — or the core material is particle board. Ask for the itemised BOQ before you compare it against anything else.

What actually drives the number

1. Running feet of carpentry

This is the biggest single lever, and it is the one clients underestimate. Interior cost in India is largely a function of how many running feet of built-in furniture you commission. A 3BHK with two wardrobes costs meaningfully less than a 3BHK with four wardrobes, a crockery unit, a study table and a full-wall TV panel — even though both are described as "3BHK full home interiors".

2. Core material

The carcass material inside your units is invisible once installed but accounts for a large share of both cost and lifespan. Particle board is cheapest and should not go anywhere near water. MDF is stable and takes finishes beautifully but swells if the edge banding fails. BWP/BWR plywood costs more and is the right answer for kitchens and wardrobe bottoms in a city with Pune’s monsoon humidity.

3. Finish

Laminate is the value choice and modern textures look excellent. Acrylic adds roughly 30–40% over laminate for a high-gloss look that shows every fingerprint. PU is the premium painted finish and can double a shutter cost, but it is the only option if you want a specific colour with a hand-finished depth.

4. Hardware

Hinges, channels, lift-ups and tandem boxes. Generic hardware versus Hettich, Hafele or Blum can swing a kitchen by ₹80,000 or more. This is the part of the house you physically touch several thousand times a year, and it is the last place we recommend saving.

What is usually missing from a cheap quote

  • Electrical: new points, rewiring, switch plates and the labour to chase walls
  • False ceiling and the cove, spot and profile lighting inside it
  • Painting — often quoted separately and it is not a small line
  • Civil work: demolition, plastering, waterproofing, tile and flooring changes
  • Loose furniture, curtains, and the styling layer that makes the 3D look like the 3D
  • GST, which is charged on both goods and services

A quote that omits four of these will always beat a complete one. That is not a better price, it is a different scope — and the difference lands on you in month three.

How to compare two quotes fairly

  • Ask both for a per-unit BOQ, not a lump sum per room
  • Check the core material named for each unit, not just the finish
  • Confirm the hardware brand in writing
  • Confirm whether electrical, ceiling, painting and civil are in or out
  • Ask what happens to the price if you change your mind after sign-off
  • Ask for the warranty in writing, and what specifically it covers

If both studios answer all six clearly, you can compare the numbers. If only one can, you have learned something more useful than a price.
